Pathways Career Symposium 2008

Environmental and Agricultural Careers Beyond Academia

Time: 12:30-1:30pm
Room: 26 Wellman

Our distinguished panelists will discuss their transitions to careers using their degrees in the agricultural and environmental sciences, particularly in the government sector. They will discuss the pros and cons of working outside the academy, advice on the job search (including federal government applications - how to write a KSA), how to be competitive for positions, and if the world of work beyond the academy has met their expectations.

Panelists:

Kean S. Goh, Ph.D., Environmental Program Manager, California Department of Pesticide Regulation, CAL EPA
Kean Goh supervises 17 environmental and research scientists who monitor pesticide residues in surface water and bed sediments, conduct research to mitigate and prevent pesticide runoff to surface water, and promulgate regulations to protect water quality.

Kean graduated from UC Davis in Entomology/Environmental Toxicology.  En route to serving in the state government, he directed marketing and research and development of agricultural chemicals for DuPont in tropical Asia, and served as a faculty member at Cornell University in research and extension at the Department of Entomology.

Christopher Hartley, Ph.D., District Conservationist, USDA-NRCS
